Dayton and Cincinnati homeowners, what did the Winter do to our lawns?
We have answer for that!
At The Organic Turf Company, we pride ourselves on being there for our customers when they have questions about the health of their lawn. Our phones have been ringing off the hook this week and, if you look at your own yard, you may have a guess as to why. If you see clearly defined, brown spots, or brown patches of grass that look like they might overtake your lawn, this is the reason for our influx of calls. So, what’s the story behind these spots? Well, as Mother Nature is known to toy with the Dayton, Ohio area, she’s back at it…again.
Ohio Winters can be extremely mild, or they can be like the one we just experienced. Seemingly never-ending, with a snowfall in mid-April being the cherry on top of the longest Winter we can recall. This late blast of cold and snow has left Dayton and Cincinnati homeowners wondering if their lawns will recover to a healthy, lush, green lawn. The short answer is “Yes.”. The longer answer is that it may take some time. As your grass grows, a healthy root will eventually replace the brown grass with green. As your grass grows, and you continue to mow, you should see that you’re heading back to normal. Feel free to contact our Lawn Care Specialists or visit our Lawn Care Service page for more information on our lawn programs that can further assist you in getting your lawn back on track.
This is a terrific video, put together by the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation and The Ohio State University’s Department of Plant Pathology, that gives a great visual guide of what to look for and what you can expect.
