[Urgent] Armyworms in Ohio
We’ve seen unbelievable amounts of Armyworm activity recently.
Its fearsome how quickly they show up and how rapidly they cause turf damage. A supplier recently emailed us that this population outbreak is the worst they have seen in over 3 decades. It’s bad. And the worst part is that these insects will decimate your lawn in as little as 72 hours. This is my back lawn’s damage in just 24 hours:
If you see browning areas, pause for a moment, bend over, and just watch the lawn for movement for 10-20 seconds. It’s highly likely you’ll see these guys:
If you see them, you MUST take immediate action. Either give us a call, or head to a hardware store and purchase Sevin. We hate suggesting Sevin since its really not friendly to the environment, but in the absence of treating these guys, your lawn is going to die. Re-seeding is not only an expensive repair, but frankly, seed is in unbelievably short supply right now and might not even be an option.
Going forward, our policy will be to treat these for our customers should we find them when we’re at your home. Honestly, a surprise bill for spraying them (the cost of one lawn treatment) is far better than waiting a week or so for approval and watching your lawn die.
Please don’t think we’re trying to cause fear. We’re just dealing with a really serious and time sensitive issue. This customer in Cincinnati had a service 7 days ago with no insects found. They called us and in 2 days, his lawn looked like this:
